Robbie Bennett, keyboardist for The War on Drugs, will release two solo albums on December 11 via American Dreams. Steloken and Circulation add 29 new tracks to his solo catalog in a single day.

Yesterday, Bennett shared one song from each record: "Sister" from Steloken and "The Light on Your Face" from Circulation.

Both albums follow Bennett's 2020 solo debut, Permanent World. He developed every track on the same keyboard he plays in The War on Drugs, but built the music through an unusual method: sending MIDI from an acoustic player piano into an Oberheim OB-X8 synthesizer, which allowed both instruments to play simultaneously.

He later added layers of Fender Rhodes, vocoder, and the Soma Terra, which he described in press materials as a "polyphonic microtonal synthesizer with a gyroscope and pressure-sensitive sensors."

"I want the music to be like you're walking through an unfamiliar place you want to keep exploring and never have to circle back to where you started," Bennett said in press materials.

What else has Bennett been working on?

Last month, Bennett appeared on The War on Drugs' first new song since 2022, "Who's That." The band has not released a studio album since 2021's I Don't Live Here Anymore, but returned in 2024 with Live Drugs Again, their second career live album.
