Phish will play their 100th concert at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 2, closing a four-night run at the New York venue scheduled around New Year's Eve. The band first played the Garden on Dec. 30, 1994, and has returned regularly for 32 years of gigs and residencies.
Ticketmaster is already running a ticket request campaign for the four-night run. General public sales open at noon on Oct. 16. Travel packages go on sale on the band's website at noon ET on Thursday.
How is Phish marking the milestone?
The band released a celebration video featuring interviews with the ushers, bartenders, and concession and merch vendors who have worked their shows over the decades. "I love the Phish," one staff member comments. Another says: "They are the only fans who asks how everybody's treating you." The clip also shows the loose, improvisatory style of dancing that defines Phish crowds.
What is the band's history at the Garden?
The residency record stands out. In 2017, Phish played a 13-show run at the venue called the Baker's Dozen, performing 237 songs without repeating a single one across the entire engagement. The Dec. 30, 1994 debut began a pattern of regular appearances and multi-night stands that now culminates in the Jan. 2 centennial concert.
What else is on the schedule?
Before New York, Phish play three Southern dates in October:
- Oct. 7 – Richmond, VA, Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront
- Oct. 9 – Jacksonville, FL, VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena
- Oct. 10-11 – Huntsville, AL, The Orion Amphitheater (two nights)
After the Garden residency, the band headlines its own Phish: Riviera Maya 2027 festival at Moon Palace Cancún in Mexico from Jan. 27-30. The event includes eight sets from the band, DJ sets from James Murphy and Questlove, and comedy from Fred Armisen, Rory Scovel, Beth Stelling and others.
The four-night New York stand runs Dec. 30, Dec. 31, Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, meaning the Garden centenary lands on the final night of the run.
