Sesto Quatrini will become Music Director of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, starting with the 2027-28 season. His initial term runs three years, through 2030.
The appointment places Quatrini at the podium during a landmark moment in the theater's history: he will accompany the Carlo Felice through its Bicentenary in 2028, the theatre's 200th anniversary year.
In the new role, Quatrini will lead three opera productions and four symphonic programs each season, along with possible special projects. He will shape programming for the next three years alongside Superintendent Michele Galli and Artistic Director Federico Pupo.
Quatrini is no stranger to the Genoese house. He has already conducted "Anna Bolena," "Il turco in Italia," and "Macbeth" at the Teatro Carlo Felice. This season he returns to lead a production of Verdi's "Nabucco."
His résumé spans major European houses. Quatrini has conducted at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Rossini Opera Festival, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Regio di Torino, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Royal Danish Opera, and the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
The three-year commitment signals institutional continuity for the Carlo Felice as it approaches its bicentenary, with Quatrini, Galli, and Pupo jointly mapping the artistic course to 2030.
