Shaboozey will release his concept album 'The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales' on July 31 through his American Dogwood imprint and Empire. The new single "Cowgirl," which dropped as the album's latest preview, follows April's "Born To Die" into a Western narrative the artist has reportedly been developing for years.

The story is a full revenge western. Cherie Lee is the daughter of a sheriff murdered by a gang called the Bootcut Boys. She abandons her badge and hunts the killers one by one. Then she falls in love with one of the outlaws — and ultimately kills the man who loves her.

"Cowgirl" sits somewhere in the middle of that plot, and it works as a standalone summer track. That duality is the point: Shaboozey writes immediately catchy hooks while building a much bigger fictional world around them, a project built around revenge, romance and redemption.

What does this change for the album?

The album has gone through several versions during its development, and "Cowgirl" was among the earlier compositions that helped shape its direction. In other words, the song isn't a late add-on — it's one of the building blocks of the record's narrative architecture.

The music video leans into the Western atmosphere and stars Ciara Miller of Bravo's 'Summer House'. Her appearance gives listeners a visual introduction to the characters and themes running through the album, effectively casting the fictional world before the full record arrives.

Musically, the project continues Shaboozey's genre-fluid approach. His country influences, hip-hop instincts and talent for memorable melodies let him tell stories without worrying about where one genre ends and another begins — the reason a revenge ballad can carry a radio-ready hook.

Country's outlaw tradition, rebuilt

Country music has always loved an outlaw story, from dangerous men riding into town to complicated characters making impossible decisions. Shaboozey takes those familiar ingredients and builds his own mythology around them: villains, romance and a heroine who is becoming increasingly dangerous.

He's also bringing the theatrical approach to the stage. His 2026 plans include a major CMA Fest performance at Nashville's Nissan Stadium and the Outlaws Never Die Tour, taking the music to audiences across the country.

"Cowgirl" works as an entry point — you can enjoy the song on its own, then discover the larger story waiting behind it. And if Cherie Lee's arc is any indication, nobody should expect a happy ending when the album lands on July 31.
