Snoh Aalegra Returns With 'Legendary Love,' an Album Built on Secrets
Snoh Aalegra breaks a five-year silence with 'Legendary Love,' out Nov. 13 — a vintage-R&B heartbreak album featuring Raphael Saadiq, Nile Rodgers and a rare Stevie Wonder sample.

Snoh Aalegra releases her fourth album, "Legendary Love," on Nov. 13 — her first in more than five years, and the most intimate record she has made. The LP is a heartbreak album. It charts, in her own telling, a brief, seismic relationship with an unnamed paramour whom the source describes only as famous, with a question mark attached.
The Iranian-Swedish singer-songwriter has spent her career as an if-you-know-you-know favorite of the industry, a dreamy neo-soul voice with A-list credits and modest commercial returns. She has not released an album since before the pandemic. Her last major moment was the R&B chart-topper "I Want You Around," back in 2019. A 2023 single, pointedly titled "Wait a Little Longer," told fans little.
She broke the silence in an interview with Melena Ryzik of The New York Times, conducted over dinner in Los Angeles after an encounter at one of Aalegra's favorite restaurants. "I always start over," Aalegra said of her approach to each project. "I wasn't away on purpose. It took time for me to find myself."
That explanation answers the timeline question without explaining it. What it does establish is that the album's delay was not a calculated retreat — or, at least, that Aalegra does not want it read as one.
Who is on the record?
The credits carry weight. Raphael Saadiq and Nile Rodgers appear on several tracks. Stevie Wonder personally approved a rare sample of his song "I Believe (When I Fall in Love With You It Will Be Forever)." The production leans on vintage R&B — actual 1980s synths and drum machines, not digital imitations — and draws on the lineage of Babyface, Wonder and Prince, connections Aalegra has accumulated since starting out as a teenager in Stockholm.
Prince, the source notes, was among those she "bewitched" — a claim the article leaves undeveloped. Her documented collaborators include Pharrell Williams, Tyler, the Creator, and producer No I.D.
Babyface, the Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, worked on the album and spoke to the Times about why he said yes. "She is one of those artists that I think a number of producers and writers always have major respect for, because, you know, she's a real one," he said. When Aalegra reached out about collaborating, "It was an immediate yes." They had met only in passing, but he had been a fan for years, after seeing her perform at a small club in Toronto. He recalled her "incredible voice" and "how honest it felt."
Honesty from a performer who keeps her secrets is the album's central tension — one Aalegra appears to cultivate deliberately.
What does this change for her audience?
The first teaser, "Run Free," released the week before the Times piece, drew an immediate outpouring. "The Queen is back!" fans wrote. "It's time sister," Kehlani commented on Instagram. Normani replied simply: "YESSSSSS."
What the return changes commercially remains an open question. As the Times notes, Aalegra has built buzz in creative circles "even without significant commercial success." "Legendary Love" is being positioned as her most personal work, made on her own terms, with legends in the room and a famous ex left unnamed. Whether that combination converts long-standing industry respect into a wider audience will be the measure of this comeback — and the album's Nov. 13 release is the first date that will answer it.
