Programme

  1. Spotify reached 306 million Premium subscribers in Q3 2026, adding 6 million.
  2. Q3 revenue was €4.97 billion, up 16%, with ad-supported revenue up 10% to €482 million.
  3. Free cash flow fell to €735 million from €806 million a year earlier.
  4. Audiobooks will expand from 22 to more than 180 markets by year-end 2026.
  5. Q4 forecast: 316 million Premium subscribers, €5.2 billion revenue, 33.8% gross margin.

Spotify reached 306 million paid subscribers at the end of the third quarter of 2026, after adding 6 million in the period, and reported revenue of €4.97 billion, up 16% year on year.

The streaming-audio company said it met all of its key targets for the quarter. On the free, ad-supported side, it added a net 11 million monthly active users, bringing the total to 788 million as of the end of September.

Ad-supported revenue grew 10% to €482 million. The company said automated sales channels continued to scale and "remained the largest contributors to overall advertising growth." It described the quarter as "reflecting relatively consistent premium growth and improved ad-supported performance."

"This was a quarter where we did what we said," Spotify co-CEO Alex Norström said in prepared remarks. "We've built a strong business that keeps compounding, we invest when we see a path for growth, our costs are moderating, and there is more runway ahead."

Norström added: "Every time we expand what's on Spotify, we bring in new listeners and give existing ones more reasons to come back, almost every day."

What did the margins and cash flow show?

Gross margin came in at 33.0%, slightly above the 32.9% guidance. Operating income reached €672 million, better than expected, which the company attributed to "lower-than-forecast marketing and personnel-related costs."

Free cash flow totaled €735 million, down from €806 million in the year-earlier period. Spotify blamed the decline on "unfavorable movements in net working capital."

How is Spotify positioning itself for the AI-agent era?

In September, Spotify launched an integration with Meta's Muse conversational AI agent. Listeners who connect Muse to Spotify can ask the agent to play music, save songs, build personalized playlists and find new books and podcasts.

"Spotify is in one of the few categories that actually stands to thrive in the agentic age," co-CEO Gustav Söderström said. "People love getting rid of chores. But entertainment is the opposite. Nobody asks an agent to 'summarize a song' for them."

Söderström argued the point of automation is to free time for enjoyment: "The whole point of getting rid of those chores is to free up even more time for the things that you actually enjoy."

What is changing for creators and listeners?

This week, Spotify launched its Creator Memberships program in 34 markets. The program lets podcasters set up subscription tiers combining:

  • exclusive audio or video
  • bonus episodes
  • fewer ads
  • early access
  • access to a show's archive

In October, the company also expanded the Spotify Partner Program to more than 35 new markets, including Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Poland and Colombia, where eligible creators can earn revenue based on engagement.

The company announced it is taking its audiobooks offering global, expanding from 22 markets to more than 180 by year-end 2026. The catalog will provide access to more than 350,000 titles spanning over 120 languages.

What does the outlook hold?

For the fourth quarter of 2026, Spotify forecasts:

  • Premium subscribers of 316 million, up 10 million
  • total monthly active users of 818 million, up 30 million
  • revenue of €5.2 billion
  • operating income of €820 million
  • gross margin of 33.8%

What does this change for listeners and creators? More markets, more monetization routes and a wider audiobook library — signals that Spotify intends to keep spending on expansion while its costs moderate and its subscriber base compounds.
