  1. The 'South America' Season 29 premiere drew 4.2 million viewers in three days across Comedy Central and Paramount+ in the U.S.
  2. Among adults 18-49, the episode scored a 0.97 rating, up 33% from Season 28's 0.73, and was the week's most-watched cable telecast in the demo excluding sports.
  3. Parker and Stone renamed the series as a parody of Trump's landmark renaming initiatives, stating: 'Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to South America.'

The Season 29 premiere of "South Park" — renamed "South America" by creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone — drew 4.2 million viewers in its first three days, according to Variety's exclusive report on U.S. viewership across Comedy Central and Paramount+.

The total nearly matched the Season 28 premiere, which reached 4.3 million viewers over the same three-day window. But the new episode delivered sharp gains among adults 18-49, the demographic advertisers prize most. In that age group, the premiere scored a 0.97 rating after three days, up 33% from the 0.73 rating the previous season's opener earned. Its share climbed to 4.77 from 3.96 a year ago, a 20% increase.

Between Monday and Friday, the "South America" premiere ranked as the most-watched cable telecast of the week among adults 18-49, excluding sports programming.

The rename is the latest stunt from Parker and Stone, and it parodies President Donald Trump's controversial initiatives to rename major landmarks. Earlier this month, the pair announced the change in a statement: "Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of 'South Park' to 'South America.'" The joke targets the tech companies' decision to honor Trump's name changes on their map services.

The statement ended with another jab, this one aimed at their own corporate owner: "We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation."

The rename drove conversation online. On premiere day, the series ranked as the No. 1 most social cable comedy. Over three days, the episode generated 11 million views and one million engagements across social platforms. It drew 63,000 online mentions in that window, a 40% increase over what the Season 28 premiere achieved in the same period.

For a franchise now in its 29th season, the numbers suggest the satire machine has lost none of its ability to convert political provocation into measurable audience growth — particularly among younger viewers. With the Trump administration continuing to supply material, Parker and Stone's gag economy shows no sign of slowing.
