Ween will release a 14-CD box set documenting their 1994-1995 tour behind Chocolate and Cheese. Boognish Provides arrives October 16 via Rhino and unearths seven full concerts from the trek.
The set captures Gene and Dean Ween — Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo, respectively — at a turning point: the tour marked the first time the duo performed as a full band, augmented by drummer Claude Coleman and bassist Andrew Weiss.
The seven shows span nine months and two continents. They include McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, California (October 9, 1994); The Metro in Chicago (October 30, 1994); First Avenue in Minneapolis (October 31, 1994); the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia (February 10, 1995); Hof Ter Lo in Antwerp, Belgium (March 27, 1995); the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado (May 20, 1995); and the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia (June 16, 1995).
Each show contains more than a dozen tracks from Chocolate and Cheese, now regarded as a classic, alongside material from the band's earlier records and songs that had yet to appear on album — including "Flutes of Chi," later released on White Pepper, and "The Blarney Stone," from The Mollusk.
Ahead of the release, Ween have shared a 24-minute performance of their metal freakout "Vallejo," recorded at the 40 Watt Club in Athens. Ween sound engineer Kirk Miller recalled the night in a statement: "From the start, the band and crowd were hyped, and the show ended with Mickey diving over the drum kit into Claude, and the two of them rolling down the couple of stairs into the dressing room, locking the door behind them."
Boognish Provides will also be released as a 2LP vinyl set featuring highlights from across the seven shows. Both formats are available to preorder now.
The release continues an accelerating archival campaign for a band that has been on hiatus since 2022. Recent years have brought deluxe reissues of Chocolate and Cheese and, most recently, 12 Golden Country Greats, along with a string of digital-only live releases. Boognish Provides extends that project deeper into the duo's live archive, raising the question of how much more unheard material remains in the vault.
