Linden Entertainment has signed Asa Butterfield, the actor known for playing Otis Milburn across Netflix's "Sex Education," for representation. The company confirmed the deal in an announcement reported exclusively by Variety.

The signing places Butterfield, 27 years into a screen career that began at age 8, alongside a roster that includes Vin Diesel, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, Amy Adams, Eiza González, Brendan Fraser, Forest Whitaker and Connor Storlie.

Who is Asa Butterfield?

Butterfield most recently made his stage debut in Barney Norris' "Second Best" at Riverside Studios in London. The play was based on David Foenkinos' best-selling novel of the same name. He also starred in Oscar Boyson's "Our Hero, Balthazar."

His next roles mark a clear shift in scale. He will play Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager, in BBC's "Hamburg Days," which follows the band's formative years in the German city. He has also wrapped John Carroll's comedy "Happy," alongside Kyra Sedgwick, Mark Strong and Wyatt Russell.

What built his career?

Butterfield made his screen debut at 8 years old in ITV's "After Thomas." Two years later, at 10, he starred in Mark Herman's "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas." That performance earned him a nomination for Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards.

His subsequent credits span a striking range of directors and co-stars:

  • Martin Scorsese's "Hugo"
  • James Graham's "A Brilliant Young Mind"
  • Peter Chelsom's "The Space Between Us," opposite Gary Oldman
  • Tim Burton's "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"
  • Gavin Hood's "Ender's Game"
  • Susanna White's "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang," opposite Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes and Ewan McGregor

In plain terms: Butterfield has worked with Scorsese, Burton and Oldman before turning 30, and the Linden deal positions him for the post-"Sex Education" phase of that career.

What is Linden Entertainment?

Nicole King and Stacy O'Neil founded Linden in 2020. They lead the company alongside JoAnne Colonna and Riva Marker. The firm's client list spans two decades of Hollywood generations, from Whitaker and Diesel to González and Storlie.

Why does the signing matter now?

Butterfield arrives at Linden with two high-profile projects pending: a BBC Beatles drama and a comedy with Sedgwick, Strong and Russell. The representation change signals how he intends to build on the platform that five seasons of a global Netflix hit provided. With "Hamburg Days" ahead, his next move will test whether a childhood career can convert into leading-man longevity.
