Paramount+ released the first three episodes of "Avatar: Seven Havens" this week, jumping 225 years past the close of "The Legend of Korra" into a dustbowl world with seven cities standing.

The new sequel series, reported by Variety, introduces not one but two Avatars: Pavi and Nisha, twin sisters separated in childhood and reunited in the premiere's opening hour. The series' central premise — two living Avatars in a world that no longer trusts them — reframes a franchise built on the solitary cycle of reincarnation.

What is the world of "Seven Havens"?

The show picks up 225 years after the end of "The Legend of Korra." A portal that opened at the close of that series connected the Spirit World to Republic City. In the centuries since, that connection has devastated the planet. Storms batter the land. Fewer children are born as benders each year. The Seven Havens — the only surviving cities — shelter what remains of organized life.

Ellora, the Haven of sand and wind, anchors the premiere. Captain Karthik (Akshay Khanna) runs a registration and training program for benders there. The world blames Korra, the last Avatar, for the cataclysm her final act triggered.

Who are the twin Avatars?

Pavi (Saheli Khan), a young sand-and-wind bender, secretly carries the Avatar spirit. She keeps a pet cat-monkey named Geet. Her classmate Jae (Major Curda) discovers her identity when she uses multiple elements to save him from a storm outside Ellora's walls.

Back in the city, Pavi reunites with Nisha (Aishu Devan), her long-lost twin. Neither sister remembers their parents. Nisha hid her Avatar abilities for three years as Karthik's ward. The discovery that two Avatars exist shocks everyone in the room.

The group decides to keep the twins' existence secret. Two living Avatars would draw dangerous attention from a world already hunting remnants of the old order.

What villain returns?

Vaatu, the spirit of darkness and chaos from "The Legend of Korra," reappears during the climactic storm of the first three episodes. The creature no longer resembles the gigantic kite-like entity Korra once faced. It now possesses a smaller form that can inhabit human and animal hosts.

Pavi and Nisha stop the creature's immediate rampage, but it escapes after showing them a vision of the past cataclysm. Episode three ends with the twins committing to Avatar training under Jae's mentorship, while a separate group of masked vigilantes identifies Ellora as their next target.

How does the premiere extend the franchise's lore?

Karthik reveals to Jae in the third episode that he belongs to the Order of the White Lotus, the secret society charged with training Avatars. He begins preparing the twins immediately.

The premiere also makes visible the practical cost of Korra's legacy. World-building throughout the three episodes shows that the portal Korra opened destabilized the planet. The central question — whether two Avatars can reverse the damage — runs through every scene.

What's next for the series?

Paramount+ will release the next three episodes one week after the premiere. The compressed release schedule replaces the 12-year gap that separated "The Legend of Korra" from the original "Last Airbender" sequel.

The masked vigilantes glimpsed at the end of episode three remain unidentified. Whether they hunt the twins, oppose the White Lotus, or operate on a different agenda is left open. The premiere raises — but does not answer — how much backstory the series will reveal about the cataclysm and whether Pavi and Nisha can restore the world to its pre-collapse state.
