Programme

  1. Billy Evans held an AMA on X on Monday night about Nathan Fielder's documentary "You Can See Everything."
  2. Evans denied cocaine use, attributing on-camera sniffing to allergies in Austin, Texas.
  3. Evans said he and Holmes did "0" preparation before filming with Fielder.
  4. Evans holds power of attorney for Holmes and posts on her social media during her incarceration.
  5. Evans said he will "hold our kids tight and talk all night" when Holmes is released from prison.

Billy Evans, Elizabeth Holmes' partner and a central figure in Nathan Fielder's documentary "You Can See Everything," answered viewer questions in a Monday-night Q&A on X, denying cocaine use and rejecting claims he controls Holmes.

Evans opened the session with an invitation to "AMA" — ask me anything — with one condition: "Needs to be legally permissable [sic]." The session drew questions on his alleged drug use, his portrayal in the film and his relationship with the incarcerated Theranos founder.

Does Evans control Elizabeth Holmes?

Asked to dispel one misconception about the documentary, Evans targeted the notion of his influence over Holmes directly.

"That I somehow control Liz," he wrote. "Anyone who actually knows her would find that idea hilarious. She's fiercely independent, strongwilled [sic], and my best friend. We are partners in every sense. We challenge each other, disagree, and face the world together. Her closest friends are also some of my closest friends. If I ever mistreated her, they'd have my head."

The takeaway: Evans frames the relationship as an equal partnership, not control.

Was he on cocaine during filming?

Viewers speculated about drug use because of Evans' frequent sniffing on camera. He answered plainly when asked directly: "Never been a fan."

He attributed the sniffing to parenting and geography. "Solo parenting 2 toddlers you are sick approx 75% of days. Allergies in Austin TX are no joke," he wrote, adding in a follow-up post: "Please someone from Austin back me up here."

What did he say about his appearance?

One user asked about his "facial bloating and the going insane part." Evans responded with a candid account of weight gain during a difficult period.

"I got fat. Raising 2 kids alone, best friend in prison, depression, building a business. I ate more than I should. I was fat. Less so now. I prioritized my kids over my health," he wrote. "I've learned that I can find the time to do small things for myself again. And that eating after 10pm isn't one of them."

How does he run Holmes' social media from prison?

In the documentary, Evans explains he posts on Holmes' social accounts while she serves her sentence, citing power of attorney.

"We talk about everything, including X. Nothing happened behind her back," he wrote. "The POA was simply the legal mechanism that allowed me to act on her behalf while she's incarcerated. It was not a substitute for her consent."

Regrets, recasting and Fielder's birthday

Asked whether he regrets participating, Evans answered: "Not at all." He had watched "almost all" of Fielder's work before filming, but said he and Holmes did "0" preparation.

Production included a personal milestone: the couple celebrated Fielder's birthday "around the table in Del Mar with my family." Evans said Fielder missed the Time 100 dinner — the magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people of 2023 — so they celebrated that too.

Culture critic Hunter Harris asked whether Christopher Abbott, who plays Evans in reenactments opposite Amanda Seyfried's Holmes, was miscast. Evans dodged: "Who is that?"

Pop culture picks and a jab at Ethan Klein

The AMA veered into lighter territory:

  • On Kendrick Lamar, responding to critic Anthony Fantano's question about "To Pimp a Butterfly": "Kendrick is a generational talent."
  • His favorite pop divas: "Chappell Roan has one of the best live sets I have ever seen." He also bought his engagement ring at a Taylor Swift Reputation tour merch stand, and called Aretha Franklin's voice the best.
  • His four favorite films: "The Fall," "Alien," "The Great Dictator" and "Primer."
  • On Ethan Klein's cheating allegations: "The moral superiority of EK is absurd. His wife had every right to shame him publicly."

What did he say about Holmes herself?

Evans grew most personal on the subject of his partner. Asked what he will do first when she is released, he said: "hold our kids tight and talk all night."

"I miss everything about her. Her touch. The way she runs her fingers through my hair. Her patience. She makes me a better person," he wrote. "People often say they need someone when what they really mean is that they want them. I've thought a lot about that distinction. I need Liz. She should qualify as a medically necessary prescription."

The one thing he does not miss, per a user's suggestion of her scrambled eggs? "Def not this."

The AMA signals Evans intends to keep shaping his own public record — in his own words — while the documentary's most pointed questions follow him online.
