Prime Video will premiere all eight episodes of "Blade Runner 2099" on Nov. 25, and the streamer unveiled the first trailer at New York Comic Con. Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer lead the limited series as fugitives in a reborn Los Angeles.

The story picks up 50 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve's "Blade Runner 2049" (2017). According to Prime Video's synopsis, Schafer plays Cora, a fugitive who takes on a final identity as a Blade Runner. She is forced to partner with Olwen, a near-death Replicant played by Yeoh. Their assignment: hunt down a runaway hiding a truth that could collapse the city.

Who joins Yeoh and Schafer on screen?

Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben star as series regulars. The recurring guest cast includes:

  • Katelyn Rose Downey
  • Daniel Rigby
  • Johnny Harris
  • Amy Lennox
  • Sheila Atim
  • Matthew Needham
  • Tom Burke
  • Maurizio Lombardi

Who is making the series?

Silka Luisa serves as showrunner, creator and executive producer. Ridley Scott — director of the original 1982 "Blade Runner" — executive produces alongside Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Alcon's President of Television Ben Roberts, and Scott Free Productions' Steven Johnson, David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger.

Richard Sharkey, Tom Spezialy, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, Tim Gable and Isa Dick Hackett also serve as executive producers. Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes and executive produces.

Where does the franchise come from?

The "Blade Runner" franchise is based on Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Ridley Scott's film adaptation, starring Harrison Ford, was released in 1982. Ford reprised his role in Villeneuve's 2017 sequel.

The move to television hands the property to Luisa, whose credits position her as the franchise's first showrunner, with Scott — the director who defined its visual language — remaining in an executive producer role rather than at the helm.

The Nov. 25 debut marks the first time a "Blade Runner" story unspools in episodic form, testing whether a property built on two feature films can sustain an eight-hour arc on streaming.
