Programme

  1. Nicki Minaj posted an apparently AI-generated Chucky image with a 'Vote Red' pin on Election Day.
  2. Creator Don Mancini replied: 'IMPOSTER. CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE.'
  3. Mancini launched the franchise with 'Child's Play' in 1988.
  4. The 'Chucky' TV series ran three seasons (2021–2024) on SYFY and USA Network and was canceled in September 2024.
  5. Minaj previously used Chucky imagery in January against journalist Don Lemon.

Nicki Minaj posted an apparently AI-generated image of Chucky wearing a pink suit and a "Vote Red" pin on Election Day — and franchise creator Don Mancini answered within hours. His reply, in all caps: "IMPOSTER. CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL WASH AWAY ALL THE CORRUPTION." Rolling Stone reported the exchange.

Mancini didn't stop at the reply. In a standalone post on his own X profile, he laid out the doll's politics in plain terms: "Chucky has a trans kid. Chucky protects the dolls. Chucky is anti-ICE. Chucky says 'A BLUE WAVE is coming, as BLUE as my fuckin' eyes!'"

He also posted a photo of a Chucky doll with blue hair replacing the character's trademark reddish locks, captioned: "Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!" That last jab cuts at the graphic itself — Minaj's post appeared to be machine-generated, and Mancini made a point of answering with a physical prop.

Why the character's politics aren't up for grabs

The reboot isn't just a creator's whim; it tracks with the franchise's own storylines. Mancini started the series in 1988 with "Child's Play" and most recently created the "Chucky" television series, which ran for three seasons between 2021 and 2024 on SYFY and USA Network.

In one of the show's early episodes, Chucky says "I have a queer kid," referring to his offspring Glen/Glenda, a character who debuted in the 2004 film "Seed of Chucky." So when Minaj casts the doll as Republican, she's arguing against nearly two decades of established canon — canon written by Mancini himself.

The TV series was canceled in September 2024 after three seasons. The last feature film in the franchise remains "Cult of Chucky," released in 2017.

What does this change for the character?

Practically, not much — no new film or series was announced in the exchange. But it sets a marker for how Mancini intends to police the doll's image as AI tools make unlicensed versions trivially easy to produce. His "No AI, by the way!" line doubles as a claim of authorship: the real Chucky, complete with blue-dyed hair, belongs to him.

It's also not the first collision between Minaj and the franchise. She used an image of the killer doll in January while attacking journalist Don Lemon over his coverage of anti-ICE protests. Minaj has closely aligned herself with Donald Trump and his MAGA base in recent months, which made the Election Day messaging predictable — and made Mancini's rebuke, by contrast, deliberately personal.

For a horror property now without an active series, the fracas keeps Chucky in the conversation. Whether Mancini converts that attention into a fourth season or a new film remains the open question for the franchise he has run since 1988.
