Daisy Ridley, Sosie Bacon and Simon Rex will star in the road trip horror feature "Get Rid of It," which is set to shoot at the start of 2027. Upgrade, CAA Media Finance and Range Select are launching the project at the American Film Market, where the three companies are handling sales.

Ry Russo-Young directs from a script by Gemma Holdway. The premise is straightforward and nasty: Harper (Ridley) discovers she's pregnant after a one-night stand with a mysterious drifter named Miller (Rex). She and her sister Jessie (Bacon) set off on a cross-country road trip, and the sisters end up fighting for survival when they realize the thing growing inside Harper may not be human.

Independent film veteran David Lancaster produces. His credits include "Whiplash," which earned him a best picture Oscar nomination, as well as "Nightcrawler" and "Drive."

Russo-Young laid out the appeal in a statement: "Propulsive and playful, this project's strength is its compelling point of view and heart beneath the horror. I'm thrilled to bring it to life with such an extraordinary and gifted group of collaborators."

Who are the three leads?

Ridley can next be seen in Ti West's upcoming film "Ebenezer" opposite Johnny Depp. She previously starred in Zak Hilditch's "We Bury The Dead," Joachim Ronning's "Young Woman and the Sea," and played Rey in the most recent "Star Wars" trilogy.

Bacon currently stars opposite Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in Elizabeth Sarnoff's series "Scarpetta." She recently appeared in the SXSW breakout "Family Movie," alongside her parents Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick and her brother Travis Bacon. Genre audiences know her from Parker Finn's horror hit "Smile"; TV viewers know her from Brad Ingelsby's detective drama "Mare of Easttown."

Rex delivered an acclaimed performance in Sean Baker's "Red Rocket" and has recently starred in Nic Pizzolatto's "Easy's Waltz" and Zoë Kravitz's "Blink Twice."

What does the package tell buyers?

Russo-Young's track record blends studio genre work with prestige television. She previously directed the sci-fi teen thriller "Before I Fall," starring Zoey Deutch, and the coming-of-age drama "The Sun is Also a Star" with Charles Melton. She also directed the acclaimed Apple TV+ series "Shrinking," headlined by Harrison Ford and Jason Segel.

The combination is a familiar AFM formula: named cast, an Oscar-nominated producer, and a high-concept horror premise that sells in a single sentence. For Ridley and Bacon, both with proven horror credentials, it's a return to the genre lane; for Rex, it's another offbeat antagonist-adjacent role in the vein of "Red Rocket."

With sales launching at AFM and cameras set to roll in early 2027, the film's next milestone is a distribution deal — and the casting announcement itself is designed to secure one.
