John Legend has released a new holiday song, "Get Ready," and it debuts inside a snowball fight between Snoopy and Woodstock. The clip premiered on Rolling Stone and previews the upcoming Peanuts special 12 Days of Snoopy, set to launch November 13 on Apple TV+.

The track is a snappy, piano-led tune that harkens back to the music Vince Guaraldi composed for Peanuts specials in the Seventies. Legend and producer Raphael Saadiq layer a brassy, soulful sound over that foundation. Legend sings about Santa Claus preparing for Christmas and everyone racing to land on his "good list."

What does Legend sing?

The lyrics carry a ledger-and-verdict theme. "When the score is tallied, the record's read, the ledger calls you name," Legend sings. "Will you be merry or instead/Just hang your head in shame?/Not much time to get in line/There's some catching up to do/Santa Claus is getting ready/And I hope you're ready, too."

The verse sets up the special's premise in plain terms: judgment is coming, and time is short.

What is '12 Days of Snoopy' about?

The special follows Snoopy after he lands on Santa's naughty list. He has just 12 days to change his standing with Santa — and, the setup suggests, possibly learn a lesson or two about what the holiday season is really about.

The new clip shows Snoopy falling short of his rehabilitation goals. He starts a wild snowball fight with Woodstock that quickly spirals out of control, in what the source describes as extremely funny and adorable ways.

The release lands days after Halloween, marking an early start to the holiday music season for Legend.

Who else contributes music?

12 Days of Snoopy features a second new single alongside "Get Ready": "Trying to Get There," a collaboration between saxophonist Kamasi Washington and singer Leon Bridges. Laufey has also recorded a cover of the holiday standard "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" for the special.

The lineup pairs Legend's soul-pop with Washington's jazz pedigree and Laufey's orchestral pop, building a soundtrack that stretches well beyond one star's contribution.

Why does the Guaraldi comparison matter?

Vince Guaraldi's Seventies Peanuts scores remain the musical benchmark for the franchise. Legend and Saadiq's decision to anchor "Get Ready" in piano-led writing signals deliberate continuity with that tradition rather than a break from it.

The brassy, soulful production updates the sound while keeping its structural DNA intact. Takeaway: the song works as both a new Legend single and a deliberate homage.

With its November 13 Apple TV+ premiere, 12 Days of Snoopy now carries a three-artist soundtrack — and Legend's snowball-fight clip gives audiences their first audible sample weeks before the holiday season proper begins.
