Katseye performed on Saturday Night Live for the first time on Saturday, playing two songs from their new EP, Wild.
The Los Angeles-based girl group delivered "Animal" and "Hootie Frutti" with four of its six members on stage. Manon Bannerman and Sophia Laforteza sat out the appearance; both are on hiatus. Laforteza cited her mental health when stepping away, and Bannerman made a similar statement.
Wild, released in August, also features "Pinky Up," "Bel Air," and "That Way." The EP arrives roughly two years after Katseye formed through the talent competition show Dream Academy. The group debuted at Coachella in April and made an American Music Awards appearance in May.
That rapid ascent has drawn a warning from an industry veteran. Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child told Rolling Stone recently that the group may face considerable pressure.
"In an industry as fast-paced as music, where there are constantly eyes on you and pressure to keep rising, your health is one of the most sacred things you have," Rowland said. "I learned during my time in Destiny's Child that you can show up for your fans and your group while still honoring what you need as an individual."
Rowland offered the group direct advice. "My advice to the Katseye girls would be to listen to themselves, be kind to themselves, and continue supporting one another through every season," she said. "Especially on tour, it's so important to intentionally carve out time to rest and reset in their daily routines. Taking care of your mind and body is what allows you to bounce back, stay resilient, and keep doing what you love."
The SNL booking lands mid-tour. Katseye began their 31-show Wildworld Tour earlier this month in Europe. In a couple of weeks, they start a run of East Coast shows in Miami, work north into Canada, then move westward before wrapping up in Mexico City in late November.
The tour will test whether the four-member formation can carry the group's biggest stage run to date, with no announced return dates for Bannerman or Laforteza.
