Katseye's new documentary, "Katseye: Wild Hearts," starts streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on Friday, Oct. 16. The 80-minute film follows the six-member group through rehearsals, recording sessions and life on the road — the unglamorous machinery behind a pop phenomenon.
The film picks up where Netflix's 2024 docuseries "Pop Star Academy: Katseye" left off. That series chronicled the training-and-competition grind that assembled the group. "Wild Hearts" shows what happens once the cameras stop rolling and, as Variety puts it, "the real work of becoming pop stars begins."
Director Nadia Hallgren, who also worked on "Pop Star Academy," returns for the sequel. The film draws on never-before-seen footage, intimate interviews, backstage moments and fan-submitted videos to track members Sophia Laforteza, Manon Bannerman, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae Jeung through their increasingly high-profile careers.
What does the film actually cover?
- Rehearsals and recording sessions
- The pressures of life in the spotlight
- The group's relationship with its fanbase, the Eyekons
- Manon Bannerman's hiatus from the group
Bannerman's break is addressed directly in the film. Sophia Laforteza is also currently on a separate hiatus from group activities, with a return expected in January 2027.
A busy moment for the group
The documentary arrives mid-surge for the Hybe x Geffen act. Their third EP, "Wild," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and the group is currently on the road for its global Wildworld Tour. The film itself already had a limited theatrical run in August.
Katseye formed through the survival competition "The Debut: Dream Academy," which exported K-pop's rigorous training model (a system of intensive, competitive preparation before debut) into the Western pop market. The gamble worked: the group built a global following on songs including "Touch," "Gnarly" and "Gabriela."
Interscope Films and Boardwalk Pictures produced the documentary in partnership with HYBE x Geffen. Variety reports the film is positioned as both a portrait of the group's rising success and a tribute to the fans who helped build it.
For viewers, the practical upshot is simple: if "Pop Star Academy" was the origin story, "Wild Hearts" is the maintenance manual — the costs of momentum, the hiatuses, and the fandom that keeps it all running.
