Kim Deal Announces Live Album From Her Orchestral Barbican Show

Kim Deal will release a live album documenting the 2025 orchestral London concert behind her solo debut, Nobody Loves You More. The performance took place at the Barbican, and a film of the show directed by Cuán Roche will accompany the record.

The show marked Deal's first-ever orchestral performance. She played it with a band that included the Shards choir, Breeders member Mando Lopez, Susan Voelz, Lindsay Glover, Nick White, Rob Bochnik, and Teenage Fanclub's Raymond McGinley.

The Barbican booking came about through Deal's own initiative. "I invited myself! That's how I came to play Nobody Loves You More at the Barbican," Deal said in a press release. "Years ago, I had worked with Chris Sharp at the 4AD label and I knew he was currently at The Barbican. So, I reached out to dear Chris and said I have orchestration on this record. I would love to be able to perform these songs with an actual orchestra. And Chris said yes, we'd love to have you."

The album, titled Live at the Barbican, runs 18 tracks. It draws on material from across Deal's solo career alongside Breeders classics such as "Do You Love Me Now?" The setlist opens with the title track of her solo debut, "Nobody Loves You More," and includes solo cuts like "Coast," "Crystal Breath," "Are You Mine?" and "Big Ben Beat." McGinley guests on two songs, "Come Running" and "A Good Time Pushed." The set closes with "Do You Love Me Now?," the 1993 Breeders song from the Safari EP.

Deal's solo debut Nobody Loves You More provided the orchestral arrangements at the heart of the performance. The record's string and brass charts, she told Chris Sharp, were the reason she wanted an actual orchestra on stage rather than a standard rock setup.

The album and film will give audiences beyond the Barbican's hall a record of a one-off event: a songwriter who spent four decades in Pixies and the Breeders performing her first orchestral concert at 64, on a stage she booked by simply asking.
