Netflix has announced "Dogfight", the seventh film pairing Jason Statham with writer-director Guy Ritchie, described by the streamer as a "stylish revenge actioner" set in the London criminal underworld. Production is due to commence in early 2027, with filming taking place in the U.K. No further plot details have been revealed.

As with nearly all of their previous collaborations, Ritchie will write, direct and produce, while Statham will star.

Who is producing "Dogfight"?

The production roster shows the partnership has become a fixed industrial arrangement:

  • Black Bear Pictures, the company behind most of Ritchie's recent titles, including his latest releases "In the Grey" and "Wife & Dog"
  • Toff Guy Films, Ritchie's own production company
  • Punch Palace Productions, Statham's banner

Named producers include Ritchie, Statham, Ritchie's Toff Guy partner Ivan Atkinson, and John Friedberg from Black Bear.

What does the reunion change for the partnership?

It lengthens one of the most durable director-star relationships in contemporary British cinema. Ritchie gave Statham his first film role in his 1998 directorial debut, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". The partnership continued with "Snatch", "Revolver", "Wrath of Man" and "Operation Fortune: Rose de Guerre".

That is six released features across nearly three decades, and "Dogfight" makes it seven. Few director-actor pairs in the action genre have sustained that volume of work.

What about "Viva La Madness"?

"Dogfight" is not the only Statham-Ritchie project in the pipeline. The pair's latest feature together, announced last year by Variety, is the action-thriller "Viva La Madness".

The film is based on J.J. Connolly's novel, the author's sequel to "Layer Cake", which Matthew Vaughn adapted for the screen in 2004. Plot details have been kept under wraps, but "Viva La Madness" has been described as a standalone film and not a continuation of previous work.

Principal photography on "Viva La Madness" wrapped earlier this year. Black Bear is distributing in North America, while Amazon MGM Studios holds rights to most international territories.

Why Netflix wants the pair now

The announcement signals Netflix's continued investment in star-driven action vehicles with proven creative teams. For Ritchie and Statham, it moves their long-running collaboration onto the industry's largest streaming platform.

With "Viva La Madness" already in the can and "Dogfight" set for a 2027 shoot, audiences can expect two new Statham-Ritchie crime films within the coming years — one in theaters through Amazon MGM internationally, and one on Netflix.
