Power Trip have released their first new music since frontman Riley Gale died in 2020. The double single, "Precinct 3" and "Scavenger," arrived via Blue Grape and marks the band's recorded return after four years of silence.
A full Power Trip album will follow next spring, according to a press release. The track "Precinct 3" comes with a video directed by Eric Richter.
Who fronts the band now?
Since reuniting in late 2023, Power Trip have been fronted by Seth Gilmore. Gilmore is a longtime friend of the band and the vocalist of Skourge and Fugitive. Gale, the group's original singer, died in 2020; the new single closes a recording gap that stretches back to before his death.
Jacob Hansen produced the two new tracks. Founding guitarist Blake Ibanez co-produced them.
What did the guitarist say about writing without Gale?
Ibanez addressed the question directly in the press release. "When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley would have wanted to write about," he said. "So once we decided on that approach, it honestly came really easily—the lyrics were flowing and it just felt like the right way to kick off this new chapter and honor him. I think he would have been stoked to see it come to fruition."
The approach treats Gale's perspective as a writing compass rather than a subject to mourn. That choice shaped lyrics the guitarist says came quickly once the band committed to it.
In short: the band wrote its comeback as if Gale were still steering the words.
What happens next?
The spring album will be Power Trip's first full-length since Gale's death and the first recorded with Gilmore on vocals. The double single now serves as the public test of that lineup, released five years after the singer's passing.
