Robert Pattinson Breaks Silence on 'Batman 2' Production Pause
Robert Pattinson says 'The Batman Part II' will 'figure it all out' after director Matt Reeves paused production over a family matter. The Feb. 18, 2028 release date remains unconfirmed.

Programme
- Robert Pattinson says 'The Batman Part II' production is 'pausing for a little bit' after director Matt Reeves stepped away on Oct. 5.
- A studio rep attributed the pause to a 'family matter' and said Reeves has 'the full support of DC Studios.'
- The film's Feb. 18, 2028 release date has not been confirmed as holding.
- Warner Bros. previously delayed the sequel from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027, then to February 2028.
- The first 'Batman' film from Reeves and Pattinson opened March 4, 2022.
Robert Pattinson has spoken for the first time since production on "The Batman Part II" paused last week, saying the DC sequel will restart once director Matt Reeves resolves what a studio representative called a "family matter."
"We're pausing for a little bit and then we're going to figure it all out," Pattinson told the Official Pop Drop at the London Film Festival, where he attended the U.K. premiere of his new film "Primetime."
The pause became public on Oct. 5, when news broke that Reeves needed to step back from filming. Neither DC Studios nor Reeves's team has disclosed the nature of the family matter.
What does the pause actually change?
For now, very little on paper. "Production on 'The Batman Part II' has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter," a representative said in a statement issued last Monday. "Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."
The word "temporarily" is doing heavy lifting in that sentence. No one has said how long the pause will last, and no one has confirmed whether the film will keep its release date of Feb. 18, 2028. That silence is the story's real open question.
A sequel already familiar with delays
The Batman sequel has moved three times already. Warner Bros. first scheduled it for Oct. 2, 2026, then delayed it a year to Oct. 1, 2027, then pushed it again to February 2028.
If that date holds, the sequel will arrive six years after the original. "The Batman," directed by Reeves and starring Pattinson, opened on March 4, 2022.
Who is in the cast?
Beyond Pattinson in the title role, the announced cast includes:
- Scarlett Johansson
- Sebastian Stan
- Charles Dance
- Brian Tyree Henry
- Colin Farrell as the Penguin
- Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth
- Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon
Reeves remains attached as director, according to the studio's statement, which frames his absence as temporary rather than a departure.
The practical question now is calendar arithmetic: a production pause of unknown length against a release date less than 28 months away, on a film that has already slipped twice. DC Studios says it wants to "continue the journey soon." Until filming resumes, February 2028 stays provisional.
