Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller is reported to make a top-secret cameo in Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday,” scheduled for release on Dec. 18, 2026. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the involvement. The casting note is equally limited: “Marvel Studios does not comment on casting.” Hüller’s role and screen time remain undisclosed.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo are in post-production on the film, according to the report. Its named ensemble includes:

  • Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie and Florence Pugh.
  • Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston and Channing Tatum.
  • Additional actors from “Black Panther,” “Thunderbolts,” “Fantastic Four” and “X-Men.”

Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers. Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. plays Victor von Doom instead of Iron Man/Tony Stark. The report says Downey’s Doctor Doom will be the superheroes’ most dangerous opponent. Beyond that threat, it says little about the plot.

Online speculation about Hüller’s part began about two weeks ago. Some fans have suggested she could portray Doctor Doom’s mother or one of the Latverian Witches. Marvel displayed the Witches’ colorful robes at this year’s Comic-Con. Neither suggestion is confirmed, and the report offers no evidence beyond fan speculation.

What does the cameo change for Hüller’s awards case?

If confirmed, “Avengers: Doomsday” would be Hüller’s fifth major feature in 2026. The report places it after four films:

  • “Project Hail Mary,” with Ryan Gosling, newly announced as Marvel superhero Ghost Rider.
  • “Rose.”
  • “Fatherland.”
  • “Digger.”

The report describes all four as part of this year’s awards race. Hüller’s Academy Award record gives that slate context. In 2024, she received her first Best Actress Oscar nomination for “Anatomy of a Fall.” It was one of two Best Picture nominees in which she starred that year, alongside “The Zone of Interest.”

“The Zone of Interest” won two Oscars, including Best International Feature. “Anatomy of a Fall” won Best Original Screenplay. Those results establish Hüller’s awards profile, but the report does not identify an awards strategy or say whether the cameo will register on screen. Hüller’s part remains undefined.

For Hüller, the practical change is modest: a confirmed part would add a Marvel franchise credit to four films the report presents as awards-race participants. It would not by itself determine an awards category; screen time, character and campaign remain unknown.

The next test is documentary: confirmation from Marvel or the Russos, followed by a character name or footage. Without those, Hüller’s appearance remains a credible reported casting rather than an announced Marvel credit.
