Silver Lion Winner Alexandros Avranas Directs Greek 'The Others'

Alexandros Avranas, winner of the Venice Film Festival Silver Lion for best director for "Miss Violence," will helm the Greek adaptation of Globoplay's hit series "The Others." The production is already underway in Greece, following a format sales agreement signed between Alpha TV and Brazilian media giant Globo in late 2024.

Lucas Paraizo created and wrote the original series. "The Others" follows two neighboring couples whose conflict begins with a fight between their teenage sons. The dispute escalates into absurd consequences, growing from a trivial disagreement into a study of how far a lack of dialogue can drive people.

The series ranks among the most successful Globoplay originals to date. It follows the path of Paraizo's hit medical drama "Under Pressure," which sold to more than 60 countries. In Brazil, the franchise consolidated its success with the premiere of its third season this year.

Primavisione produces the Greek adaptation. The cast includes Maria Nafpliotou ("Café 404"), Charis Fragulis ("Afterlov"), Nikos Psarras ("The Fire Bracelet"), and Paschalis Terzis. Greece will also receive a local adaptation of the telenovela "All The Flowers," produced by the same company for the same broadcaster.

Paraizo visited the Greek set to mark the start of production. "I was on the set of the Greek version of 'The Others', a series I created, and had the pleasure of watching the shooting of one of the most important scenes of the first season: the scene where the characters Cibele and Wando face off over their sons' fight," he said.

"I had the pleasure of witnessing the enthusiasm of the cast, crew, and director Alexandro Avranas, whom I've been a fan of since he directed the feature film 'Miss Violence,'" he added. "I am curious to see this new version of the series and am sure it will be a success in Greece, as it was in Brazil, countries that have a lot in common."

The deal strengthens Globo's position in the international format rights market. The company recently saw a Peruvian version of "Her Own Destiny" and a Portuguese adaptation of the same title.

With filming underway and a second Globo format, "All The Flowers," already slated for the Greek market, the Alpha TV partnership signals that Brazilian scripted drama has secured a durable foothold in southeastern European broadcasting.
