Italian-American soprano Ashley Milanese has joined the roster of TACT Artists Management, the agency has announced. Rebecca Townsend will represent her going forward.

The move lands at a busy moment in Milanese's calendar. This season she debuts the role of Micaëla in "La tragédie de Carmen" with New Orleans Opera. She also returns to Giorgetta in Puccini's "Il tabarro" with Amarillo Opera — a role she has sung before, which makes her one of the few parts this season audiences can measure against earlier performances.

Who is Ashley Milanese?

Milanese built her career through some of America's most respected young-artist programs. She is an alumna of the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Opera Philadelphia and Wolf Trap Opera — three companies known for developing singers early in their professional lives.

Her performance credits since then span both sides of the Atlantic. She has sung at the Komische Oper Berlin and the Teatro Regio di Torino in Europe. In the United States, she has appeared with the Sarasota Opera and the Metropolitan Opera.

That mix matters for how we read this signing. A singer with Metropolitan Opera credits and a European footprint doesn't simply need bookings — she needs representation that can coordinate offers across multiple markets.

What does this change for Milanese?

The practical shift is representation itself. TACT Artists Management, an agency that manages opera singers' careers and negotiates their engagements, now handles her bookings through Townsend. For a singer juggling a role debut in New Orleans and a repertoire revival in Amarillo in the same season, a dedicated agent is the mechanism that turns momentum into a sustained schedule.

Milanese also joins a roster in flux. TACT has recently signed soprano Aviva Fortunata, tenor Jihoon Park and soprano Rocío Pérez, according to the agency's announcements. Agencies tend to sign in clusters when they're building out a voice type or a market segment — a pattern worth watching as TACT's soprano bench grows.

What comes next

The immediate test is New Orleans. A first Micaëla in "La tragédie de Carmen" — Peter Brook's compressed reworking of Bizet's opera — gives Milanese a role debut in a condensed dramatic format that rewards stagecraft as much as vocal polish. The "Il tabarro" revival in Amarillo follows, reuniting her with Puccini's Giorgetta.

If both engagements land well, Milanese enters her first full season under TACT's representation with fresh role credentials and a proven Puccini pedigree — exactly the profile companies look for when casting lyric repertoire.
