Multiplatinum rapper Wiz Khalifa has signed with 10K Projects, the label confirmed to Variety, and releases his new single "The Calm" this evening. The deal returns the rapper to the Warner Music Group family for a third stint and reunites him with his close friend and former project manager, Marsha St. Hubert, now co-president of 10K Projects.
The timing is not accidental. On Thursday, Khalifa received 12 new RIAA certifications, headlined by a 16-times platinum certification for "See You Again" featuring Charlie Puth. Two additional singles reached Diamond status, the RIAA's 10-times platinum tier: "Black & Yellow" and "Young, Wild & & Free" with Snoop Dogg. In plain terms, three of his songs have now sold or streamed the equivalent of ten million units or more in the United States.
Khalifa's history with Warner runs deep. He signed with Warner Records at 18, then moved to Atlantic Records four years later, beginning a long and commercially dominant run that has made him one of the most successful rappers of the past 15 years.
"It's good to be home and back with my day 1, Marsha," Khalifa said.
Who wrote and produced "The Calm"?
The new track was written by Wiz, Eric Dan, Kenneth Wright, Edward Murray, Mackenzie Stotts, and Jermal J Harper, and produced by Wiz, Dan, Wright, Sledgren, and Ricky P. An album is likely in the coming weeks, according to the announcement.
What did the executives say?
St. Hubert framed the signing as both a professional and personal reunion. "I'm excited to welcome Wiz back home to WMG as we reunite to embark on a new era together at 10K Projects," she said. "From day one, Wiz has not only been one of the most innovative and talented artists I've ever worked with but one of the most stand up guys you can meet. Alongside Will, Constance and the Taylor Gang/SMAC teams, we're looking forward to picking up where we left off and continuing to make history together."
Will Dzombak, co-founder of the Taylor Gang and founder of the William Gerard Group LLC, emphasized the durability of the partnership. "3rd times a charm and having one of our close friends, Marsha, in the role of Co-president makes the team and projects that much better," Dzombak said. "We have been working together for over a decade and a half and pumped to share with the world everything we have in store."
Constance Schwartz-Morini, co-founder and CEO of SMAC Entertainment, cast the deal as a return to roots. "This is a full-circle moment for Wiz," she said. "Coming back to Warner at this stage in his career with Marsha, who has been an integral part of his journey from the beginning, makes it even more special. There's such a strong foundation there, and we are so excited to win with the 10k team."
Why the deal matters
The numbers explain the label's confidence. Twelve new RIAA certifications in a single week — anchored by a 16-times platinum single and two Diamond records — represent a catalog with unusually sustained commercial reach across more than a decade of streaming-era consumption.
The takeaway: Khalifa's third Warner-era chapter begins tonight with "The Calm," and an album is expected within weeks, with the same management and label team that helped build his catalog the first time around.
