Zarna Garg to Debut First Netflix Stand-Up Special in 2027
Zarna Garg's first Netflix stand-up special, directed by 'Indian Matchmaking' creator Smriti Mundhra, debuts in 2027 — her third hour in four years after Amazon and Hulu releases.

Programme
- Zarna Garg's first Netflix stand-up special debuts in 2027.
- Smriti Mundhra, creator of Netflix's 'Indian Matchmaking,' directs the special.
- Garg's debut special 'One in a Billion' premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2023; Hulu released her second, 'Practical People Win,' in 2025.
- Her memoir 'This American Woman,' published by Random House in 2025, became a New York Times bestseller.
- Garg is currently touring 'Million Dollar Excuses' and will appear in Amazon MGM's 'Clashing Through the Snow.'
Zarna Garg will debut her first Netflix stand-up special in 2027. The streaming giant has set the currently untitled hour for release that year, with Smriti Mundhra — creator of the Netflix reality dating series "Indian Matchmaking" — attached as director.
3 Arts Entertainment produces the special. Executive producers include Garg, her producing partner Samama Moontaha, and 3 Arts' Adam Triplett.
What will the special cover?
The tagline says the special "will go where Garg previously hasn't — embracing being American!" According to the official description, Garg "finds that being American isn't half bad. She's discovered the beauty of saying no. She's learned to accept her kids' dating choices and is even encouraging people to go get therapy — not her of course."
The Netflix hour marks Garg's third stand-up special overall and her first outside Amazon and Hulu. The pattern of her specials tracks a rapid three-year climb across three major streamers:
- 2023: "Zarna Garg: One in a Billion," her debut, on Amazon Prime Video
- 2025: "Zarna Garg: Practical People Win," her second, on Hulu
- 2027: the untitled third special, her Netflix first
She is currently on the road with her "Million Dollar Excuses" tour. In the past, she opened for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on their "Restless Leg" tour.
Who is Zarna Garg beyond stand-up?
Garg's screen credits keep expanding on both film and television. She appeared in the 2025 rom-com film "A Nice Indian Boy" and in an episode of Mindy Kaling's Hulu comedy series "Not Suitable for Work." She has also developed shows with Kaling and Kevin Hart. Next up is Amazon MGM's holiday comedy "Clashing Through the Snow."
Her publishing and audio presence is equally concrete. Random House published her memoir, "This American Woman," in 2025; the book became a New York Times bestseller. She hosts the "Zarna Garg Family Podcast" with her husband and children.
Garg is repped by 3 Arts, UTA and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
What did Garg say about the milestone?
The comedian framed the Netflix deal with characteristic bluntness. "No one expected a short, chubby, brown woman to sell out iconic venues around the world — and much to her own chagrin, become a feminist icon," Garg said in a statement. "It's a milestone on the way to the tombstone."
The quip is one sentence, but it carries the thesis of her career arc: an Indian American mother of three who entered comedy late and now headlines a third platform in four years, with a bestselling memoir and a national tour running alongside.
What does the Netflix deal signal?
The move gives Garg her widest distribution platform to date and pairs her with a director, Mundhra, who already holds a proven Netflix track record through "Indian Matchmaking." With the 2027 release date still distant, Garg's tour dates, podcast and holiday film appearance will keep her visible in the interim.
