Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, following his conviction in a felony sex crime retrial that ended on June 11, 2025.

The 74-year-old former film mogul was found guilty of one count of criminal sexual assault against Miriam Haley, a former assistant on "Project Runway." The jury found him not guilty of a separate count of criminal sexual assault against model Kaja Sokola, and acquitted him of a third count.

The 15-year sentence split the difference between the competing requests from both sides. Weinstein's attorneys had asked for a 9-year sentence, while prosecutors sought 20 years.

The retrial was itself the product of an earlier reversal. Weinstein originally received a 23-year prison sentence in this case, but a judge overturned the verdict and ordered a new trial after determining that Weinstein had not received a fair one.

His legal troubles are far from over. Weinstein still faces another lawsuit in New York, and in June a judge in Los Angeles determined that he must be resentenced there, following his prior sentence of 16 years in prison.

In May, a separate case involving actress Jessica Mann ended in a mistrial. That case had been tried three times and stemmed from an accusation involving a 2013 incident.

Weinstein is currently serving his sentence at Riker's Island in New York. In March, he sat for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's editor-in-chief, in which he maintained his innocence regarding his nearly 100 accusers, saying he "did not assault" any of them.

"Did I make a pass at some of these women unsuccessfully? Did I overplay my hand? Yes," Weinstein said at the time. "Was I pushy or overly seductive? Yes to all of that. Look, I should never have gone out with the people I went out with. I was married to a fantastic woman who had no idea what I was doing. I lied all the time. I improperly used my staff to hide these things. But did I ever sexually assault a woman? No. I never did that."

Weinstein is expected to return to court in Los Angeles for resentencing, where a judge will determine how much additional time he may face beyond the 15 years imposed in New York.
