Lionsgate has released the trailer for "Day Drinker," a thriller directed by Marc Webb and starring Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz. The film arrives in theaters on March 26, 2027.

The story follows a private-yacht bartender, played by Cline, who encounters a mysterious guest played by Depp. The official logline reads: "They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming."

The trailer shows a grey-haired Depp in what the source describes as extra-weird mode. He delivers the film's ominous framing device himself: "My story? Perhaps it's a tale of revenge. Or perhaps something worse. What if all of this is a ghost story? Or maybe I'm just another day drinker?"

The release marks a significant step in Depp's return to the Hollywood studio system. "Day Drinker" will be one of the first Hollywood-supported movies to bring the actor back to the big screen following his 2022 trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. His other upcoming studio film, Paramount's "Ebenezer," reaches theaters earlier, on November 13.

For Cruz, the film represents a re-entry into Hollywood filmmaking after a year dominated by independent cinema. She spent 2026 working across a slate of well-reviewed indie productions, including "La Bola Negra," "The Invite" and "Bunker." "Day Drinker" pairs her again with Depp, her frequent on-screen collaborator.

The project also marks a transition for Cline. It is her first film since wrapping "Outer Banks," the North Carolina-set Netflix series that made her a star in the role of Sarah Cameron. The show premiered its first season in 2020 and concluded with its fifth season in August.

Webb directs from a production team led by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean and Nathan Kahane. The executive producer roster includes Webb himself, alongside Dan Friedkin, Micah Green, Daniel Steinman, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Sam Sarkar, Eric Sherman, Sarah Hong, Scott LaStaiti, Adrián Guerra and Xavier Parache.

With a March 2027 release date and three bankable leads at different stages of their careers — a Hollywood star rebuilding, an Oscar-winning actress returning to the studio fold, and a streaming-native talent crossing into features — Lionsgate is positioning "Day Drinker" as a test of whether theatrical audiences will turn out for Depp in a major studio release for the first time since his trial.
