Maison Estelle, the private members club in Mayfair, temporarily closed today after the Metropolitan Police opened an investigation outside its premises on Grafton Street. All of the club's Frieze Week parties and dinners have been canceled.

Lisson Gallery, which had been set to host an event at Maison Estelle, confirmed in an email to ARTnews that its team is now searching for a new venue. This is the second consecutive year the gallery has had to pivot under unusual circumstances. In 2025, the Chiltern Firehouse caught fire, forcing Lisson to move its annual Frieze party to Maison Estelle.

In an email to all members, Maison Estelle said the police investigation follows "a serious public safety matter outside the premises" and that any "dining bookings and cultural programming will be canceled and will not go ahead during this closure."

The closure appears linked to a guest-list breach. According to a source close to the club, three members were granted special permission to invite around 30 people each. Normally, members are allowed up to three guests per visit, and larger parties require vetting. The three members instead invited more than 30 guests each, and at some point roughly more than 600 people gathered outside Maison Estelle. Someone is presumed to have fainted in the crowd. Maison Estelle could not be reached immediately for comment.

The club told members it is working "closely with Westminster City Council and the police while we carry out investigations and review our license conditions."

Maison Estelle opened in 2021 on Grafton Street in Mayfair, within walking distance of luxury stores and galleries including Hauser & Wirth, Alison Jacques, David Zwirner and Cardi Gallery. The club has built its reputation on private parties with heavily guarded guest lists — staff tape over mobile phone cameras with stickers at the door. Princess Beatrice, Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton have all been spotted leaving the venue.

The closure lands at the worst possible moment for the club's standing in the art-world calendar. Frieze Week, which draws collectors, dealers and artists to London each October, has become a cornerstone of Maison Estelle's cultural programming — and the license review now underway will determine whether that programming can resume.
