Taylor Swift has announced a new single, "Patient Zero", due out Friday, September 25. The track, along with "acoustic" and "piano" versions, is available for pre-order in CD format on Swift's webstore, with three separate single covers.

The announcement caps a week of deliberate teasers from the singer. Swift changed her Instagram bio to read "And, baby, that's sh0w business f0r y0u. ❤️🔥" — the zero-studded spelling continuing a pattern fans have learned to parse letter by letter. She also tweaked the layout of the "Read My Letter" page on her official website.

The biggest clue arrived during the 2026 Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14. In a Law & Order-themed skit, Swift rattled off a string of nonsense words that, according to some keen-eyed fans, unscramble into the message: "HI MY FIRST RECORD'S RE-RECORD IS OUT NOV TEN. AHAHAHA." If accurate, the anagram points to a November 10 release for the re-recorded edition of Swift's 2006 self-titled debut.

As of today, Swift has not confirmed any official plans around Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version). The single stands as her only announced release.

"Patient Zero" follows a high-volume stretch for the singer. Swift released The Life of a Showgirl, her record-breaking 15th No. 1 album, last October. This year alone she has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the National Recording Registry, dropped music videos for the Showgirl tracks "Opalite" and "Elizabeth Taylor," and contributed the original song "I Knew It, I Knew You" to Toy Story 5.

This Sunday's MTV VMAs will add another line to the résumé. Swift holds nine nominations — a count that leaves her behind only Madonna — and will receive the inaugural "Artist Director Honors" at the ceremony.
