Taylor Swift will world premiere the music video for her new single "Patient Zero" at the MTV VMAs on Sunday, where she also receives the inaugural Artist-Director Award.

The video stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell alongside Swift, who directed the clip herself. It arrives Friday together with her new album "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," an expanded edition of last year's "The Life of a Showgirl."

Swift previewed the video on "CBS Mornings" on Thursday before posting the teaser on her social media accounts. The footage shows Swift and Johnson mirroring each other across a bathroom sink, diving into water and standing together at a grave. A close-up of Swift crying offers a clear view of her engagement ring from Travis Kelce. Farrell then steps out of a car, and the three meet, all dressed in black.

Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, whose credits include "The Revenant" and "Birdman," shot the video. Lubezki also lensed Tom Cruise's upcoming film "Digger."

Swift announced "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore" on Wednesday, one day after revealing "Patient Zero." The expanded album adds four new tracks: "Patient Zero," "Cleveland!," "Pink Clouding" and "Babylon."

In her announcement, Swift credited the record-breaking success of the original album as the catalyst for the new material. "About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing. Something that completely blew my mind… You gave 'The Life of a Showgirl' the biggest first week for an album in history," she wrote.

She traced the new songs to a trip to Sweden with her two collaborators on the album, Max Martin and Shellback. "Really we just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs," Swift wrote. "I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made."

The MTV VMAs air Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT on CBS, simulcast on MTV and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. With a VMA stage debut, an A-list cast and Lubezki behind the camera, the premiere positions "Patient Zero" as the flagship release of the encore edition's four new tracks.
