  1. Amazon's Prime Video confirmed Esther McGregor as Violet Sorrengail and Emilio Sakraya as Xaden Riorson.
  2. Meredith Averill ('The Haunting of Hill House') is showrunner and executive producer.
  3. Lisa Joy directs the pilot and executive produces via Kilter Films.
  4. Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society produce the series.
  5. The series streams exclusively on Prime Video; no premiere date has been announced.

Amazon's Prime Video has confirmed that Esther McGregor will play Violet Sorrengail and Emilio Sakraya will play Xaden Riorson in the TV adaptation of Rebecca Yarros's bestselling 'Fourth Wing' series. The announcement, made jointly by the author and the streamer, settles last week's casting report and locks in the two leads of one of publishing's most closely watched romantasy properties.

Yarros endorsed the choice in a statement. "I'm so grateful to our producing and casting team for conducting a thorough, worldwide search to find Violet and Xaden," she said. "It will be incredibly exciting to see these talented actors, Esther and Emilio, bring our beloved characters to life on screen."

Who is making the series?

Meredith Averill ('The Haunting of Hill House') will adapt the books as showrunner and executive producer. Lisa Joy, co-founder of Kilter Films, serves as executive producer and will direct the pilot.

Joy praised the leads in her own statement: "Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya are brilliant, magnetic actors. We cannot wait for the world to see what they will do with these incredible characters."

The production credits stack up quickly:

  • Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society produce the series, which will stream exclusively on Prime Video.
  • Executive producers include Yarros herself, Kilter Films (Joy, Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham), Outlier Society (Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo) and Premeditated Productions (Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark).
  • Averill doubles as showrunner and executive producer.

Per the official logline, 'Fourth Wing' follows Violet Sorrengail, "forced by her mother to enter the brutal world of Basgiath War College," where she joins hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

What does this change for viewers?

The casting converts a long-gestating book deal into a production with faces attached, a point of real weight for a fandom that has tracked every rumor. Amazon MGM Studios' head of global television, Peter Friedlander, acknowledged the stakes in a statement. "Few stories have inspired the kind of passionate, worldwide fandom that Rebecca Yarros has built with Fourth Wing, and we know just how much Violet and Xaden mean to readers," he said. "Esther and Emilio are rare and exceptional talents who bring something truly special to these iconic roles."

The claims are strong — 'rare and exceptional,' 'truly special' — and none of the statements address the practical questions that follow any casting announcement: no start date for production, no premiere window, no episode count. Both leads are comparatively early in their screen careers, and neither Amazon nor Yarros cited prior roles in the statements.

What the announcement does establish is a chain of committed talent across writing, directing and production: a showrunner with horror-drama credentials, a pilot director in Joy, and an author holding an executive producer credit, which gives Yarros formal influence over how her characters reach the screen.

With leads confirmed and Averill's writers' framework in place, the next concrete markers — a production start, additional casting for Basgiath's dragon riders, and a premiere date — will show whether the adaptation can match the speed of the books' rise.
