Beta Film has acquired world distribution rights to two eight-part crime series: Italy's "The Man from Milan" and Ukraine's "Silent Nava." Both will make their market debut at Mipcom.

The Munich-based distributor heads to Cannes first with the world premiere of the Swedish royal romance drama "Queen Silvia," screening at the Grand Auditorium and open to the public.

Simone Spada, whose credits include "Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders," directs "The Man from Milan." Cross Productions, RAI Fiction and Beta Film produce. The series follows a notorious criminal who joins a rehabilitation program as his ticket to freedom, only to discover that the hardest escape is from himself. Alessandro Tedeschi ("The Hummingbird"), Vittoria Puccini ("Kiss Me Again") and Alberto Astorri ("Rose Island") star.

"Silent Nava" marks Ukraine's first true-crime series. It offers a portrait of a corrupt and complicit society that protects predators and betrays their victims. Sfera Film produces for Kyivstar TV, with Dmytro Andriyanov ("Tabun") directing. The cast features Oleksandr Rudynskyi ("Two Sisters," "The Agency"), Anastasiia Pustovit ("When the Trees Fall") and Andrii Saminin ("Shepherd").

"Queen Silvia" draws on the real-life romance between Sweden's Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustaf. The six-part series recounts the love story of the young Crown Prince Carl Gustaf and the German Brazilian interpreter Silvia Sommerlath, who later became Queen of Sweden. Miguel Alexandre ("Sisi," "Gran Paradiso") directs, with Alicia von Rittberg ("Charité," "Becoming Elizabeth") and Edvin Endre ("Vikings," "Hammarskjöld: Fight for Peace") in the lead roles. Pyjama Pictures in Germany and Sweden's Unlimited Stories jointly produce the series for Prime Video in the German-Austrian-Swiss region and the Nordic countries, as well as for Sat.1 in Germany.

Beta's autumn/winter lineup adds several premium international titles. German TIFF entry "Blindspot Berlin" examines how institutional failures, bureaucracy and political blind spots prevented authorities from stopping one of Germany's deadliest terrorist attacks.

"The Panini Family – Album of Dreams" tells the story of the Italian family that turned a humble newsstand into a global phenomenon with its iconic Panini collectible soccer stickers and albums — a business that exploded with the 1970 World Cup.

"Portobello," from Marco Bellocchio ("The Traitor," "Kidnapped"), premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim. It chronicles the true story of a beloved Italian television host falsely accused of Mafia involvement in the 1980s.

Spain's "In Vitro: The Creation of Happiness," which opens this year's Serielizados fest in Barcelona, follows a brilliant biologist at a fertility clinic who confronts her partner's desire to start a family and begins to question her own understanding of motherhood.

Returning programs round out the slate: the fifth and final season of historical drama "Babylon Berlin," Canadian canine cop show "Hudson & Rex," British mystery series "Bookish," and "El Immortal," the Spanish drama chronicling the rise of Madrid's Los Miami gang and its control of the city's drug trade.

With a royal premiere in Cannes, two Mipcom crime debuts and a final season of "Babylon Berlin," Beta Film is positioning its autumn/winter slate as a direct pitch to international buyers across European public and streaming platforms.
