CHORALSPACE will present Mozart's "Great Mass in C minor" at the Musikverein Vienna in October 2027, the organization has announced.

Sergi Gili Solé will conduct the performances. The project brings participating singers and choirs into the Golden Hall, the Musikverein's celebrated main auditorium. Organizers have capped participation at 500 singers because of the size and layout of the venue.

The run of performances is scheduled for Oct. 21 to 24, 2027.

The showcase gives amateur and professional choral singers the chance to perform in one of the world's most famous concert halls, under a conductor engaged specifically for the project. CHORALSPACE, which specializes in large-scale choral events, has structured the Vienna project around the Golden Hall's physical constraints — a rare limit for a company whose productions often assemble massed choirs well beyond that figure.

Beyond the Golden Hall performance, the program has a second tier of activity. Participating choirs, which CHORALSPACE will announce at a later date, will perform on stage during the first half of the concert. They will also take part in additional concerts at churches in Vienna, extending the project across the city during the four-day window.

Mozart's "Great Mass in C minor," K. 427, remains one of the composer's most imposing sacred works, left incomplete at his death and long a touchstone for large choral forces. Programming it in the Golden Hall pairs the work's monumental choral writing with a venue famed for its acoustics.

For Gili Solé, the assignment places him before one of the largest choral forces any conductor regularly faces: 500 voices prepared across multiple ensembles and assembled into a single massed choir for the performance.

The announcement of the participating choirs, expected at a later date, will determine the composition of the massed ensemble; the church concerts will give each group its own platform in Vienna's sacred spaces.

The Vienna project follows CHORALSPACE's announced "Puccini in Florence," extending the company's pattern of pairing major repertoire with destination venues across Europe. With dates set more than two years out, the Mozart Mass in Vienna gives choirs an early target for 2027 season planning — and a Golden Hall deadline to prepare for.
