Harry Styles closed a 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night with two Halloween-themed concerts the British pop star calls "Harryween." The scheduling, as Derrick Bryson Taylor and Kaja Andric reported for The New York Times, was no accident: the final night of his New York stop on the "Together, Together" tour fell on a holiday built for exuberance.

The residency turned New York into a two-month Styles festival. Dozens of fans camped outside Madison Square Garden in August before the first concert. In September, look-alike competitors gathered in Times Square. Four-hour lines formed outside Styles's pop-up shop in the East Village. Last week, Manhattan borough president Brad Hoylman-Sigal declared a "Harry Styles Appreciation Day."

The takeaway in plain words: thirty shows across roughly three months made Styles a fixture of the city's cultural calendar, not just a touring act passing through.

What is 'Harryween'?

"Harryween" is Styles's own name for his costumed Halloween concerts, now in their latest iteration at the Garden. Thousands of fans, known as Stylers, arrived Saturday night dressed as witches, Beetlejuice and neon-colored aliens. One wore a button reading "Trick or TPWK" — a play on "Treat People With Kindness," Styles's longtime slogan and the title of his 2019 song.

Costumes extended beyond Halloween staples. Lexi Donnelly, a 20-year-old neuroscience student at Drew University in New Jersey, came dressed as Grace, an American Girl doll, inspired by Styles's song "American Girls." Her father, who secured the tickets, wore a White Castle ensemble referencing a "Saturday Night Live" sketch in which Styles worked a fast-food drive-thru.

"I've always wanted to go to Harryween, but it's just so hard to get tickets," Donnelly told The Times.

Why did demand run so high?

The scarcity Donnelly described shaped the entire residency. Thirty shows at one venue is a rarity in pop touring, yet camping, look-alike contests and hours-long merch lines persisted from August through Halloween — a measure of demand that outstripped even an extended run's supply of roughly half a million seats.

The one-sentence takeaway: fan behavior across the city, from Times Square to the East Village, showed the residency had grown beyond the arena into a citywide event.

With the New York stop now closed, the "Together, Together" tour moves on — leaving behind a declared appreciation day, a new Harryween chapter, and a fanbase that spent months treating Styles as a local institution.
