Programme

  1. Stephanie March returns as ADA Alexandra Cabot in Season 28, episode 9 of 'Law & Order: SVU'.
  2. March has played Cabot in more than 100 episodes since joining the cast in 2000.
  3. Her last appearance was Season 19 in 2018.
  4. 'SVU' is the longest-running primetime drama in American television history and airs Thursdays at 9 p.m.

Stephanie March will reprise Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot in the ninth episode of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" Season 28, Variety reports. The role spans more than 100 episodes of the NBC series. March last appeared on the show in Season 19 in 2018.

Who is Alexandra Cabot?

Cabot served as the SVU squad's prosecutor. March joined the main cast in Season 2 in 2000 and stayed through Season 5 in 2003. Her character exited the series in dramatic fashion: Cabot faked her own death and entered the witness protection program.

That exit did not end the role. March returned as a guest star across Seasons 6, 10, 11, 13 and finally Season 19 in 2018. She also played Cabot in "Conviction," a 2006 legal drama spinoff of "SVU" that ran briefly.

The takeaway: Cabot is one of the longest-running recurring legal characters in the franchise's history, and March's return ends a seven-year absence from the squad room.

What else has March done?

March's credits outside the Wolf franchise include:

  • "The Invention of Lying," Ricky Gervais' 2009 comedy film
  • "Who We Are Now," Matthew Newton's 2017 indie film
  • "The Social Ones," Laura Kosann's 2019 mockumentary
  • "Origin," Ava DuVernay's 2023 film
  • "Naomi," DuVernay's 2022 series, another collaboration with the filmmaker
  • "Harlan Coben's Shelter," the 2023 Amazon Prime Video series

She is represented by Paradigm and Navigation Media Group.

Where does 'SVU' stand in Season 28?

Dick Wolf created the series, which is the longest-running primetime drama in the history of American television. The show airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.

The current cast includes Mariska Hargitay, Ice T, Peter Scanavino, Kelli Giddish, Kevin Kane, Aimée Donna Kelly and Corey Cott. Wolf executive produces alongside Hargitay, Michele Fazekas, Kenneth Brown, Rebecca McGill, Anastasia Puglisi and Peter Jankowski. Universal Television produces the series in association with Wolf Entertainment.

In plain terms: a drama now in its 28th season is reaching back to a character introduced 25 years ago, betting that veteran guest stars still draw viewers in a broadcast landscape where longevity itself is the rarest asset.
