Programme

  1. The Chicks postponed their Dolby Theatre concert in Los Angeles on Nov. 2, hours before doors opened, due to illness.

  3. Refunds are available at point of purchase for fans unable to attend the new date.

  5. The album earned five Grammy Awards, including Album, Record and Song of the Year.

The Chicks postponed their Los Angeles concert at the Dolby Theatre on Monday, Nov. 2, just hours before doors were set to open, citing illness. The country trio announced the same day that the show had been rescheduled to Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The band shared a statement confirming the logistics: all previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. Fans who can't attend Wednesday can get refunds at their point of purchase.

What does this change for ticketholders?

Practically, two things. If you hold a ticket for the original Nov. 2 date, it now works for Nov. 4 — no action needed. If the new date doesn't fit your schedule, a refund is available where you bought the ticket.

That second option is the one many fans are taking. The announcement's comment section filled with dismay from people who had traveled specifically for the show.

"Hope someone feels better! My friends and I planned for this months in advance, traveled 4+ hours and can't attend Wednesday date," one fan wrote. "Sooo bummed!"

Another commenter described an international trip built around the concert: "Flew in from Canada with my mother in law and 15 year old daughter. I saw your show in Vancouver in 2006, 20 years ago. We go home tomorrow, will miss the Wednesday show. Really sad news. Take care."

Why this tour carries extra weight

The postponement lands near the end of the Chicks' Taking the Long Way 20th anniversary tour, which celebrates the 2006 album of the same name.

That record has a loaded history. It was the band's first release after lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 that she was "ashamed" that President George W. Bush was from Texas, the band's home state, and denounced the Iraq War.

The backlash was immediate and severe:

  • Country radio stations pulled the Chicks' songs from rotation.
  • American audiences boycotted the band's shows.
  • The group was jeered at during live appearances.
  • Some angry listeners bulldozed piles of the band's CDs.

The controversy, and the band's response to it, drives the opening tracks of the album. The single "Not Ready to Make Nice" functions as the record's central statement — in it, the band vowed to keep speaking out regardless of the consequences.

The album's commercial and critical redemption came at the 2007 Grammy Awards, where the Chicks took home five trophies, including three of the ceremony's biggest: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.

The bigger picture

For a tour built around an album about weathering public backlash, a late illness-related postponement is a small disruption — but for the out-of-state and international fans who planned trips months ahead, it's a real loss. The rescheduled Nov. 4 date closes the loop for most ticketholders; for those flying home before then, the refund window is the only remedy on offer.
