Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul have released their first single in four years. The track, titled “Googoo Gaga,” went out via Deewee, the label run by their fellow Belgians Soulwax, and Because.

The song marks the opening move of the duo's next chapter, following their 2022 album Topical Dancer. Bolis Pupul co-produced “Googoo Gaga” with Soulwax, the production team and band that has worked with the pair throughout their career and contributed to their earlier releases.

“Googoo Gaga” is an account of mothering a young child. Adigéry and Pupul described the record's origins in a press release: “'It takes a village, and yet you're doing it alone.' This record was made as we both became parents: 'Googoo Gaga' is about feeling drained, the self-sacrifice, the overwhelm, yet embracing all of it.”

The quote signals a shift in subject matter for the duo, whose 2022 album Topical Dancer established them as one of the most distinctive acts in European electronic pop. Where that record turned a satirical eye on culture and identity, the new single draws directly from the pair's private lives — both Adigéry and Pupul became parents during the making of the record, and the song channels that experience into their music.

The single arrives with a video directed by Lennert Madou. Madou's visuals accompany a track that, according to the artists' own description, balances exhaustion and overload with acceptance — “feeling drained, the self-sacrifice, the overwhelm, yet embracing all of it.”

The release also deepens the long-running creative partnership between the duo and Soulwax. The Belgian group co-produced “Googoo Gaga” and continue to release the pair's music on their Deewee imprint, alongside Because — an arrangement that has carried Adigéry and Pupul's work since their emergence as a joint project.

Adigéry and Pupul last released new music four years ago, making “Googoo Gaga” the duo's first statement of new material since Topical Dancer landed in 2022.
