Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" has logged its 23rd total week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the all-time record previously held by Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You." The country single is now the longest-running No. 1 in U.S. chart history.

Langley responded to the news in an Instagram post. "I'm genuinely trying to find the words to help explain what's going on in my brain today," she wrote. "Thank you for loving this song, for listening to it. I just don't even know what to say at this point. I'm running out of hyperboles to describe how I feel so I'll just let my dog in the background show you his excitement…. Today doesn't feel like a real thing, it feels fake."

The record she now holds outright has changed hands several times over nearly three decades. For 23 years, Carey's "One Sweet Day," a duet with Boyz II Men from her 1995 album Daydream, held the title with 16 weeks at No. 1 — a mark she briefly shared with Langley. Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" remix, featuring Justin Bieber, tied that record in 2017. Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" finally surpassed it in 2018, collecting 19 weeks at the top of the chart.

"Old Town Road" went largely unchallenged until late 2024, when Shaboozey tied it with "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." Meanwhile, every holiday season since 2019, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" kept accumulating additional weeks at No. 1, until last year, when Carey finally reclaimed her crown.

Langley released "Choosin' Texas" in October 2025 as the lead single from her third studio album, Dandelion. The song entered the Billboard charts the following month and first reached No. 1 in February. Dandelion itself spent two weeks as the No. 1 album in the country in April and, as of last week, has returned to that position — giving Langley simultaneous command of both the singles and albums charts as her record-setting run continues.
